A quick and easy bagel board featuring smoked salmon, herbed cream cheese, and fresh toppings, perfect for casual entertaining and brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 to 6 bagels (plain, everything, or sesame)
  • 8 ounces (225 grams) full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh dill
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed and patted dry
  • Half a red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced or ribboned
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Optional extras: cherry tomatoes, sliced radishes, avocado slices
  • Optional garnishes: cracked black pepper, drizzle of olive oil, fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. Soften cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  2. Mix softened cream cheese with chopped fresh dill, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt until smooth; set aside.
  3. Slice bagels into halves or quarters depending on board size and guest count.
  4. Toast bagels lightly for 3-5 minutes if a crisp texture is preferred.
  5. Thinly slice half a red onion and one cucumber; rinse and dry capers.
  6. If using optional extras like radishes or tomatoes, slice them now.
  7. Arrange cream cheese in a small bowl or spread a generous layer on some bagel halves.
  8. Layer smoked salmon slices artfully next to or on top of the bagels.
  9. Scatter capers, red onion slices, cucumber ribbons, and fresh dill around the board.
  10. Place lemon wedges for squeezing over the top.
  11. Add optional garnishes such as cracked black pepper, a drizzle of olive oil, or fresh herbs.
  12. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

Soften cream cheese before spreading to avoid tearing bagels. Thinly slice onions and cucumbers for balanced flavors. Assemble board shortly before serving to keep smoked salmon fresh. Cream cheese mixture can be made a day ahead and refrigerated.
