Refreshing Classic Cuban Mojito Recipe

classic Cuban mojito recipe - featured image

A quick and easy classic Cuban mojito cocktail featuring fresh mint, lime, sugar, white rum, and soda water for a refreshing summer drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 to 12 fresh mint leaves per glass
  • 1 whole lime, cut into wedges
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (or simple syrup)
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) white rum
  • 4 to 6 ounces (120180 ml) soda water, chilled
  • Ice cubes (preferably large)

Instructions

  1. Rinse fresh mint leaves and gently pat dry. Cut one lime into 6 wedges and set aside. Have sugar and rum ready.
  2. Place mint leaves and 3 lime wedges into a glass. Add sugar on top. Gently muddle the mint and lime together to release oils and juice without shredding the mint.
  3. Pour in 2 ounces (60 ml) white rum over the muddled mixture. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Fill the glass with large ice cubes. Top off with 4 to 6 ounces (120-180 ml) chilled soda water. Stir gently to blend.
  5. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wheel. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh, vibrant mint leaves and muddle gently to avoid bitterness. Large ice cubes melt slower to keep the drink cold without dilution. Prepare mojitos just before serving to keep soda fizzy and mint fresh. Freshly squeezed lime juice is essential for bright flavor. Leftover mojito base (without soda) can be refrigerated up to 24 hours; add soda just before serving.
