Tender orange blossom cookies with a zesty citrus flavor and delicate floral aroma, perfect for afternoon tea or a light dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and cream cheese with granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the egg to the butter mixture and beat until fully incorporated, about 1 minute.
  5. Mix in the orange zest, orange juice, orange blossom water, and vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed just until combined. Avoid overmixing.
  7. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion out dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing cookies about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until edges are lightly golden but centers still look soft.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar once cooled, if desired.

Notes

If dough is too sticky, chill in the fridge for 15 minutes before scooping. Avoid overmixing to keep cookies tender. Fresh orange zest is preferred over dried for best flavor. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Dust with powdered sugar the day after baking for enhanced aroma.
