These adorable turkey cookies with candy corn feathers are a quick and easy Thanksgiving treat that tastes like a hug from someone you miss. Made with simple ingredients like store-bought sugar cookies, frosting, and candy corn, they’re perfect for creating sweet holiday memories.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12–16 store-bought sugar cookies (Lofthouse-style soft frosted cookies recommended)
  • 1 can (16 oz) vanilla frosting
  • 1 cup candy corn (classic, not seasonal flavors)
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips or candy eyes
  • 1 tablespoon orange frosting or orange gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Set up your workstation: Lay out all ingredients and tools. Place cookies on a baking sheet, candy corn in a small bowl, and let frosting come to room temperature (about 10 minutes if refrigerated).
  2. Prepare the frosting base: Spoon about 2 tablespoons of vanilla frosting into a small bowl and set aside for the turkey’s body.
  3. Create the feather fan: Spread a thin layer of reserved frosting over the top half of a cookie, leaving a 1/4-inch border. Working quickly, arrange candy corn in a fan pattern with points facing outward. Use about 5 pieces per row, making 3 rows total. Press each piece gently into the frosting.
  4. Let the feathers set: Allow cookies to sit for a full 5 minutes so frosting firms up and feathers stay in place.
  5. Add the turkey body: Spread a generous dollop of remaining vanilla frosting in the center of the cookie, over the inner ends of the candy corn. Shape into a round oval using a spatula or knife.
  6. Attach the eyes: Gently press two mini chocolate chips or candy eyes into the upper part of the frosting body, about half an inch apart. If using chocolate chips, position pointed ends facing inward.
  7. Make the beak and snood: Spoon orange frosting into a zip-top bag, snip off a tiny corner, and pipe a small triangle for the beak below the eyes. Pipe a small squiggle or dot below the beak for the snood.
  8. Final touches and setting: Adjust any details as needed. Let cookies sit at room temperature for 15 minutes (or refrigerate 5 minutes) to allow frosting to set completely.

Notes

Let frosting set for 5 minutes after adding feathers before adding the body to prevent sliding. Use room-temperature frosting for easier spreading. Imperfect feathers give the turkey personality. Make extra candy corn available for snacking while you work. Cookies taste even better the next day as flavors meld.
