A quick and easy green bean casserole made with frozen green beans, canned cream of mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions. Perfect for weeknight dinners or holiday feasts, this comforting dish comes together in about 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340g) frozen green beans
  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 298g) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon (1g) black pepper
  • 1½ cups (about 85g) French’s crispy fried onions
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let frozen green beans thaw for 5-10 minutes, then drain and pat dry.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
  3. Add drained green beans to the bowl and stir gently until all beans are coated.
  4. Fold in ½ cup of the crispy fried onions.
  5. Pour mixture into a greased 1½-quart baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes until bubbly around edges and slightly set.
  7. Remove from oven, sprinkle remaining 1 cup of crispy fried onions evenly over the top.
  8. Return to oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes until onions are golden and fragrant.
  9. Let casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best texture, layer half the fried onions in the middle and half on top. Let the casserole rest 5 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken. To make ahead, assemble without top onions and refrigerate up to 24 hours; add 10 minutes to bake time. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free cream of mushroom soup and unsweetened oat or almond milk.
