A vibrant and fun recipe for layered red, white, and blue jello shots with vodka, perfect for patriotic celebrations like the Fourth of July. The recipe features a creamy white middle layer and a fizz from lemon-lime soda or sparkling water for a balanced, boozy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Red Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry or cherry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold vodka (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) lemon-lime soda or sparkling water (optional for fizz)
  • White Layer (Creamy Middle): 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold vodka
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk (for richness)
  • Blue Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry or blueberry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold vodka
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) lemon-lime soda or sparkling water (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a mixing bowl, pour 1 cup boiling water over the strawberry gelatin powder. Whisk briskly until completely dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add 1/2 cup cold vodka and 1/4 cup lemon-lime soda or sparkling water if using. Stir gently to combine.
  2. Pour and Chill: Pour the red mixture evenly into your 9×13 inch dish or mold, creating about 1/3 of the total depth. Refrigerate for 45–60 minutes until firm but slightly tacky to the touch (not fully set, or layers won’t stick well).
  3. Make the White Layer: While the red sets, dissolve unflavored gelatin in 1 cup boiling water, whisking until smooth. Let cool slightly before whisking in 1/2 cup vodka and 1 cup sweetened condensed milk.
  4. Layer the White: Slowly pour the white layer over the red, using the back of a spoon to soften the pour and avoid disturbing the red layer. Chill again for 45–60 minutes until set but still tacky.
  5. Prepare the Blue Layer: Repeat the gelatin dissolving step with blue raspberry gelatin and boiling water. Add vodka and lemon-lime soda or sparkling water. Let cool slightly.
  6. Final Layer: Gently pour the blue layer over the white using the same slow pour technique. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to fully set.
  7. Cut and Serve: Use a sharp knife or cookie cutter to portion into individual jello shots. Keep chilled until ready to serve for best texture.

Notes

Chill each layer until tacky but not fully set before pouring the next to prevent layers from mixing. Use the back of a spoon to pour layers gently. Let gelatin mixtures cool slightly before adding vodka to avoid melting set layers. Keep shots chilled until serving for best texture. Adjust vodka amount to taste for balance between boozy and smooth texture. For dairy-free white layer, substitute sweetened condensed milk with coconut or almond milk mixed with sweetener.
