  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • Sea salt or flaky salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • For Citrus Zing Avocado Toast:
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro or parsley
  • For Spicy Sriracha Avocado Toast:
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • Thinly sliced radishes
  • Chopped scallions
  • For Savory Herb & Cheese Toast:
  • 2 tablespoons crumbled feta or goat cheese
  • Fresh thyme or oregano leaves
  • Drizzle of honey (optional)
  • For Mediterranean-Inspired Toast:
  • 2 tablespoons chopped Kalamata olives, pitted
  • 4 halved cherry tomatoes
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon capers

Instructions

  1. Toast 2 slices of your chosen bread until golden and crisp, about 3-4 minutes in a toaster or toaster oven. If using a skillet, toast each side for 2-3 minutes over medium heat.
  2. Cut 1 ripe avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a small mixing bowl. Mash with a fork to desired consistency. Add a pinch of sea salt and a drizzle of olive oil.
  3. For Citrus Zing: Stir in 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, a pinch of red pepper flakes, and 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro or parsley into the mashed avocado. Spread evenly on the toasted bread.
  4. For Spicy Sriracha: Mix 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce into the mashed avocado. Spread on toast, then top with thinly sliced radishes and chopped scallions.
  5. For Savory Herb & Cheese: Spread plain mashed avocado on toast. Crumble 2 tablespoons feta or goat cheese over the top, sprinkle fresh thyme leaves, and drizzle lightly with honey if desired.
  6. For Mediterranean-Inspired: Fold 2 tablespoons chopped Kalamata olives, 4 halved cherry tomatoes, 1 teaspoon capers, and torn basil leaves into the mashed avocado. Spread on toast.
  7. Finish each toast with a grind of black pepper and an extra drizzle of olive oil if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use ripe avocados that yield slightly when pressed but are not mushy. Toast bread well to avoid sogginess. Mash avocado just enough to keep some texture. Add lemon juice to slow browning if preparing ahead. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor. Cheese can be omitted or substituted for vegan options. Bread can be swapped for gluten-free or low-carb alternatives.
