A festive and easy-to-make layered jello shot recipe featuring red, white, and blue colors perfect for patriotic celebrations like the 4th of July. These shots balance sweetness, chill, and a little kick of fun in neat little cups.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 packets gelatin (1 red-flavored, 1 blue-flavored, 1 unflavored or white)
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water (355 ml)
  • 1 1/2 cups cold water (355 ml)
  • Red flavored gelatin (cherry or strawberry)
  • Blue flavored gelatin (blue raspberry or blueberry)
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk (240 ml)
  • 1 cup vodka or clear rum (240 ml), divided evenly among layers
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml)
  • Optional: small patriotic-themed plastic shot cups or silicone molds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Dissolve 1 packet of red-flavored gelatin in 1/2 cup boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add 1/4 cup cold water, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 1/3 cup vodka. Mix gently. Pour into shot cups, filling about one-third full. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until firm but slightly tacky to touch.
  2. Make the White Layer: While the red layer sets, sprinkle 1 packet of unflavored gelatin over 1/4 cup cold water in a small bowl. Let it bloom for 5 minutes. Heat 1/2 cup boiling water and stir in the gelatin until dissolved. Stir in 1 cup sweetened condensed milk and 1/3 cup vodka. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature but not set. Carefully spoon this over the red layer in the cups. Chill for another 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Blue Layer: Dissolve 1 packet of blue-flavored gelatin in 1/2 cup boiling water. Once dissolved, add 1/4 cup cold water and 1/3 cup vodka. Let cool slightly. Gently pour or spoon this over the white layer. Return the shots to the refrigerator for at least 2 hours until fully set.
  4. Final Touches: Once set, check the firmness by gently pressing the top. The layers should be firm but bouncy. Garnish with a small star-shaped fruit piece or a sprinkle of edible glitter for extra flair.
  5. Serving: Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. If transporting, place shots in a shallow container to keep layer integrity intact.

Notes

Be patient with layering; chill each layer until slightly firm before adding the next to prevent colors from bleeding. Use the back of a spoon or a squeeze bottle to pour layers gently. Bloom gelatin properly to avoid lumps. Use quality vodka or rum for best flavor. Non-alcoholic versions can replace vodka with cold water or soda. For dairy-free white layer, substitute sweetened condensed milk with coconut milk and agar powder.
