A spooky and impressive Halloween charcuterie board shaped like a skull, featuring black cheddar, salami roses, and blood-red fruit. Easy to assemble in under 20 minutes with no cooking required.

Ingredients

  • Skull-shaped cheese board or platter
  • Black cheddar cheese (8 oz)
  • Smoked gouda (6 oz)
  • Salami roses (8 oz)
  • Prosciutto (4 oz)
  • Red grapes (1 cup)
  • Pomegranate seeds (½ cup)
  • Blackberries (1 cup)
  • Dried figs (½ cup)
  • Blood-red cherry tomatoes (1 cup)
  • Marcona almonds (½ cup)
  • Pumpkin seeds (¼ cup)
  • Rosemary sprigs
  • Black olives (½ cup)
  • Edible eyeballs (optional)
  • Assorted crackers (8 oz)
  • Baguette slices (1 small baguette)
  • Honey (for drizzling)
  • Whole grain mustard (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prep your cheeses (5 minutes): Take the black cheddar and smoked gouda out of the fridge 30 minutes before assembling. Cut the black cheddar into cubes and triangles. Slice the gouda into thin wedges.
  2. Make salami roses (3 minutes): Overlap 8-10 slices of salami slightly in a line. Roll them up tightly from one end, then gently pull the outer layers to create ‘petals.’ Place them on the board like little flowers.
  3. Drape the prosciutto (2 minutes): Fold each slice of prosciutto into loose ribbons, creating airy, wavy pieces.
  4. Prep the fruit (5 minutes): Rinse the grapes and blackberries. Cut the dried figs in half. Scoop out pomegranate seeds. Cut cherry tomatoes in half if large.
  5. Toast the baguette (5 minutes): Slice the baguette into ½-inch rounds. Toast at 375°F for 5-7 minutes until just golden. Let cool completely.
  6. Arrange the skull board (10 minutes): Place black cheddar in the ‘eye sockets’ area, gouda along the ‘jaw,’ salami roses near the ‘nose,’ and prosciutto around the ‘forehead’ and ‘cheeks.’
  7. Fill in the gaps (5 minutes): Scatter grapes, blackberries, cherry tomatoes, pomegranate seeds, almonds, and pumpkin seeds. Tuck rosemary sprigs between everything.
  8. Add the finishing touches (3 minutes): Place small bowls of olives, honey, and mustard. Arrange crackers and baguette slices around the edges. Add edible eyeballs if using.
  9. Final check (2 minutes): Step back and ensure the board looks balanced and abundant. Fill empty spots with extra nuts or fruit.

Notes

Prep everything before arranging. Keep wet and dry ingredients separate. Use small bowls for olives, honey, and mustard. For best flavor, serve cheeses at room temperature. The board can be assembled up to 4 hours ahead; add crackers and bread just before serving.
