This quick fresh ginger cranberry orange sauce is ready in 15 minutes and uses simple ingredients for a tangy, sweet, and spicy flavor. Perfect for weeknights or holidays, it’s a crowd-pleaser that’s easy to make.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cranberries, 12 ounces (340g)
  • Granulated sugar, ¾ cup (150g)
  • Fresh orange juice, ½ cup (120ml)
  • Fresh orange zest, 1 tablespoon (about 1 large orange worth)
  • Fresh ginger, 2 tablespoons (about a 2-inch piece), peeled and grated
  • Water, ¼ cup (60ml)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients first. Zest and juice your orange. Peel and grate the ginger. Measure out sugar and water.
  2. Combine everything in the saucepan. Add fresh cranberries, sugar, orange juice, orange zest, grated ginger, water, and a pinch of salt to a medium saucepan. Stir to combine.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until cranberries start to soften and pop.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most cranberries have burst and sauce coats the back of a spoon.
  5. Test for sweetness and adjust. Add more sugar if desired or extra orange juice if too sweet.
  6. Remove from heat and cool for 5-10 minutes. Sauce will thicken as it cools.
  7. Transfer to a serving dish or storage container. Serve immediately or refrigerate.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, blend with an immersion blender after cooling. Sauce can be made ahead and actually tastes better after a day or two in the fridge. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Freezes well for up to three months.
