This Quick Spooky Spider Web Fruit Tray is a festive, healthy Halloween appetizer that comes together in under 15 minutes. A creamy cream cheese dip is piped into a spider web pattern and surrounded by fresh fruit, making it a crowd-pleaser for parties and potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups green grapes, washed and dried
  • 2 cups red grapes, washed and dried
  • 1 pint strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1 cup blueberries, washed and dried
  • 1 cup blackberries, washed and dried
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 46 pretzel sticks, broken in half
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cream cheese dip: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add the sifted powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then beat until fully incorporated. Add milk one tablespoon at a time, beating after each addition, until the dip reaches a piping consistency.
  2. Prepare the fruit: Wash all fruit thoroughly under cool running water. Pat dry with paper towels. Hull the strawberries and cut them in half lengthwise. Slice the apple thinly and toss with a squeeze of lemon juice to prevent browning. Leave the grapes whole but remove any stems. Arrange all fruit in separate bowls.
  3. Fill the piping bag: Spoon the cream cheese dip into a piping bag or a zip-top bag. If using a zip-top bag, snip off one corner about 1/4 inch from the tip. Twist the top of the bag to push the dip toward the tip.
  4. Arrange the fruit base: Place a large round platter on a flat surface. Arrange the fruit in concentric circles around the platter, leaving a 4-inch circle in the center empty for the dip. Start with the largest fruit on the outer edge and work inward. Leave small gaps between fruit pieces.
  5. Pipe the spider web: Pipe the cream cheese dip in the center of the platter in a small circle about 3 inches wide. Then pipe concentric circles outward, spacing them about 1 inch apart. You should have about 4-5 circles total.
  6. Create the web effect: Take a small offset spatula or butter knife and start from the center circle. Drag the knife outward through all the circles, pulling toward the edge of the platter. Repeat this every 2 inches around the entire circle, creating 8-10 spokes. Wipe the knife clean between each drag.
  7. Add the spider: Place a few pretzel stick halves around the edge of the dip to look like spider legs. Place two chocolate chips in the center of the dip for eyes.
  8. Add finishing touches: Sprinkle edible glitter or Halloween sprinkles over the fruit for extra sparkle. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Use room temperature cream cheese for a smooth dip. Dry fruit thoroughly to prevent the dip from sliding. Work quickly with the dip once piped. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free cream cheese and coconut cream. For a low-sugar version, use a sugar substitute.
