Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (for spiderweb design)
  • Optional: black sesame seeds or poppy seeds for spider decorations
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, or crusty bread for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Stir until smooth and completely combined, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the buffalo hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir until evenly incorporated. Taste and adjust if needed.
  4. Fold in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese and all of the mozzarella. Reserve the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar for the top.
  5. In a separate small skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the shredded chicken and 2 tablespoons of buffalo hot sauce. Stir until the chicken is evenly coated and warmed through, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the buffalo chicken to the cream cheese mixture. Fold gently until combined.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a 10-inch cast iron skillet or baking dish. Spread into an even layer.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly around the edges and the cheese on top is melted and starting to turn golden.
  10. While the dip bakes, prepare the spiderweb sour cream. Place the 1/4 cup of sour cream in a small piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip off a tiny corner.
  11. Remove the dip from the oven and let it cool for 2-3 minutes.
  12. Pipe the spiderweb design: Start by piping a small circle in the center. Then pipe concentric circles radiating outward, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Using a toothpick or knife tip, drag lines from the center outward through all the circles. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  13. Optional: Place a small plastic spider on the web or create spiders using black sesame seeds.
  14. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, or crusty bread.

Notes

For the smoothest texture, use room temperature cream cheese. Warming the chicken with hot sauce and butter infuses flavor. Let the dip rest 2-3 minutes after baking before piping the spiderweb to prevent the sour cream from melting. Refrigerate the sour cream for the web for 10 minutes before piping for better shape retention. This dip tastes even better the next day.
