These fudgy, truffle-like cookies combine crushed Oreos and cream cheese for an irresistible texture. A happy accident turned into a party favorite that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies (regular or Double Stuf)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or candy eyes (for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place the entire package of Oreos (cream filling and all) into a food processor. Pulse until you have fine crumbs that look like dark sand. Set aside 1/4 cup of the crumbs for decorating later.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl halfway through.
  3. Add the wet ingredients: Beat in the softened cream cheese until fully combined, about 1 minute. Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix on low just until incorporated.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Mix the dough: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed. Stop when just combined. Fold in the crushed Oreo crumbs (except the reserved 1/4 cup) with a spatula.
  6. Chill the dough: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  8. Shape the cookies: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop out rounded tablespoons of dough (about 1.5 inches in diameter). Roll each portion into a ball between your palms. Place the balls 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Add the finishing touch: Roll each dough ball in the reserved Oreo crumbs, pressing gently so the crumbs stick. If making black cat cookies, press two candy eyes into each ball before baking.
  10. Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, rotating the pans halfway through. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

Don’t skip the chill time—it prevents the cookies from spreading too much. Use room temperature ingredients for best results. For gluten-free, use gluten-free Oreos and a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. For dairy-free, use dairy-free cream cheese and vegan butter.
